MORE THAN 40 YEARS AGO I had some extraordinary experiences at the hands of Professor George Polya (1887–1985), one of the most revered of writers on mathematical problem solving.
Three or so times a year I would go to his cottage on Dartmouth Street in Palo Alto to meet with him for a one-on-one seminar, almost always on the heuristics of problem solving.
